Dr. Pierre LaBorde I., M. D.,  was born in Tartas, France in 1746 as the youngest of six children.  He became the first Surgeon General at Point Coupee Post (Located at the site of New Roads, LA).  He had lived at Opelousas before coming to Avoyelles Parish where he died in 1825.  Besides his duties as Surgeon General and Coroner, he had farming interests as well as stock raising in the area.  He married 15 year old Modeste LaCour and they are the ancestors of the LaBorde family of Avoyelles Parish, LA.
