Notes for Antoine LACHENEY, I

In Canada, the name Lacheney is also spelled Lachenaye, La Chenay, La
Chenet, and de la Chenaye. At Avoyelles during the colonial period, the
most common spelling was "Lacheney".

At Avoyelles Post, Antoine Lacheney I, actively served as an appraiser of
property, witness of official documents, and arbiter of disputes. All in
assistance to the Commandant and the Alcalde. In many of these cases he
served jointly with Marc Eleche'. They had married sisters. This
indicates that Antoine Lacheney, I. lived near the center of the
settlement.

This page is dedicated to the men and women who braved great danger to come from France and other countries and worked under extremely difficult conditions in the Louisiana Wilderness to produce a better way of life for their descendants.  To all of them we are deeply indebted.
